Matthew 11:18 – For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.
Matthew 11:19 – The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.
People are fickle. Crowds are clamorous. People pleasing serves no purpose. The same crowds that deify you today may very well crucify you tomorrow. Critics are ever consuming the called. Critiquing is a new Christian gifting – not unlike the 10th gift of the Spirit: the gift of suspicion.
God made each of us unique. There has never been one person with the exact same fingerprints as another. Everything your hands touch receives something only you can give. We all have our own quirks, personalities, and God specified mission. None other than God designed you, and destined you all in the same touch. Therefore, our manufacturer is the only one that really knows what we were created to accomplish. The maker, and not mankind, should be the motor behind our movement. We line up our lives to His manual (bible), and measure our effectiveness using His measuring tape. Our motivation flows from an innate desire to please our producer not the people.
The crowds already have a cookie cutter they’d like to cast you into.
The people have a prefabricated set of armor for you to wear. They are very uncomfortable with slingshots. If you are going to part bodies of water you must use a stick, it’s wrong to just step into the water. Tabernacle worship should be structured and silent; it’s ludicrous to have a tabernacle with 24-hour worship. The temple is supposed to be extravagantly arrayed with gold, I don’t know about this new temple anointed with glory. Kings shouldn’t disrobe and dance, they should be in control and cold.
John the Baptist and Jesus both ministered to the same crowds of people. John didn’t eat with the people and Jesus did. Both were criticized. You can’t win for losing. Lesson learned. The only way to please people is to become what the people are: crowds that crucify those connecting with their created calling.
I have a different hypothesis: you should just be you. Whoever and whatever that is. Place your unique fingerprints on this world and make a difference for your Designer. Dance to the music your Composer allows only you to hear. Anything less will eliminate the effectiveness of our Engineers’ efforts.
