I caught the devil in another lie

There is no doubt, the devil is a liar.  You know he is lying, if his lips are moving.  One of the greatest lies he ever told is found in the book of Job.

Job 1:9-11, Then satan answered the Lord, and said, doth Job fear God for nought?  Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side?  Thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.  But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.

The devil in essence is saying that the reason Job worships God is because God has blessed him with stuff. And were God to take Jobs stuff away, Job would then quit worshipping God.  It makes sense.  Surely the reason people worship is because God is good.  But, the devil’s statement is also a giant lie.  Because there are a lot of people that worship God in spite of their lack of stuff.

As a pastor I have seen people go through myriad experiences.  The good and the bad.  The high and low.  The mountain and the valley.  It does something for God, and it strikes a heavy blow to the devil when these people worship God in both extremes.

I’ve seen people dying of cancer leap up and down in the presence of God.

There have been crippled people moving their deformed extremities in worship to the Lord.

I have seen couples lose their children and then the very next service be the first ones on their feet praising the Lord.

We aren’t in this relationship for stuff.  We are pursuing a relationship with our saviour.  We are not as interested in His presents, as we are His presence.  We are people who are pursuing the face of God, instead of His hands.

You lied devil.  People will worship God, when the hedges are down.
